About Richardson Academy
Richardson Academy: Who are we?
We are members of Richardson Academy; a not for profit amateur sports organization through camps and clinics, training elite basketball teams that practice in Puyallup spanning 3rd grade to 8th grade. We believe in the acronym I.C.E.
I.C.E. stands for intensity, consistency, and execution. We practice at Northwest Christian Academy three times a week and focus on these things. Our coach, Benito Richardson, is constantly striving to instill these three-character traits in us- on, and more importantly, off the court.
We have a cheer we always say: “One, two, three, ICE...four, five, six, FAMILY!” The are no words for how blessed we feel to play this sport we love with friends. Family isn’t a word we use lightly. Family is not always blood; it is deeper than that for us!
Richardson Academy: What is I.C.E.?
Intensity: When it comes to intensity, he asks us to focus in and have a mental toughness for what we encounter on the hardwood as well as in life. With every tough practice or drill, and with every hard test or task we face in school, we are learning that we are stronger than we think we are.
Consistency: The message we learn around consistency reflects that in order to grow and reach our goals, we have to aim for consistency. However, to reach that objective we are learning that failure will happen, and things do not always come easily. But if we strive every day to get better, practice will eventually make perfect. Shots we take might be missed, but every day making the effort to be intentional in our choices ultimately will pay off.
Execution: In terms of execution, we have learned so much! Academically, if our homework is not done, we have to sit on the side of the court until it is completed! But schoolwork is the easy part! There is an execution that is expected when it comes to our relationships with each other. It is always team above self and at the end of the day, the buzzer will sound, but it is our friendships and relationships with others that will define our character.
